This site gives me a place to post the progress of my adventure cruise aboard the sailing vessel Pintita as it navigates from the US Virgin Islands to Baltimore Maryland.
Captain Phil has made his living for the last 13 years by chartering his Endeavour 45 sailboat to groups of 1 to 30. See the "boat" tab for more details on the Pintita or click on this link to The Pintita website. Scroll back up to the top of this page (and every page) for a photo of her motoring out to the West Channel of the Patapsco. Most of Phil's charters are within 20 miles of the Baltimore Harbor. Two or three times a year, he voyages 80 to 100 miles to areas like Solomons Md. He is assisted by 1 or 2 paid crew members that he draws from from a pool of about 15 part timers crew (swabs to Phil) like me.
For several years, Phil has dreamed and planned of wintering The Pintita in the Caribbean. Last October, he began the adventure. You can follow his trip on his facebook page "SV Pintita". This trip is purely a vacation for Phil and the many family, friends, and swabs who will accompany and assist him. He alone will make the entire trip. Various friends, family, and crew will fly down and back to various islands where they will board and depart for a week or two in paradise.
The trip started by sailing 200 miles down the Chesapeake Bay, entering the Eastern Cut of the ICW just below Norfolk, and a lot of motoring down to Wilmington NC where they headed offshore for a passage to St. Thomas. From there, they sailed to Martinique where they began their island hopping adventure back up through the Windward Islands to St. Thomas.
This is where MY part of the adventure began. For the year preceding the trip, all Phil's correspondence regarding the trip has been titled "Only Heading South, No Going Back". Now that is history - hence the title of MY blog "Only Going North".
I appreciate the opportunity to vicariously enjoy your trip!!! Thanks, Ron, Donna Munro
